Dr. Neal Chalofsky is a professor of the Human Resource Development Graduate Program at the George Washington University, Washington, DC, and director of the HRD doctoral program. He is also the director of the Forum for the Meaning of Work, a research and development institute that is affiliated with the HRD program at GW.

His teaching responsibilities include: foundations of HRD, group dynamics & facilitation, innovative learning techniques, consultation, and a special seminar on the meaning of work; at both the masters and doctoral level. Neal's research interests include values, motivation, & meaning of work, individual & group learning, and the development of the HRD profession; both in the US and internationally.

Previously he was a professor and director of HRD graduate studies at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech). He has also been an internal HRD practitioner, manager, and researcher for several federal government and corporate organizations.

Neal has consulted with such organizations as Mobil Research & Development Corporation, U.S. Department of Education, Computer Sciences Corporation, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Smithsonian Institution, Ernst & Young, Inc., the World Bank, and Bell Atlantic. He has also worked with the Postal Service in South Africa, ICI, International in Taiwan, and Groupo Alpha in Mexico. Neal's consultation interests are in the areas of establishing a culture in organizations based on meaningful learning & work, group facilitation & team development, program evaluation, and improving the organizational HRD function.

He has been a member of the national Board of Directors and chair of several national committees of the American Society for Training and Development; as well as past president of the Washington, DC chapter. Neal is currently the coordinator of the preconference on Integrity and Meaning of Work for the Academy for Human Resource Development annual national conference. He has been a speaker at numerous national and local conferences, and was a keynote speaker at the first annual conference of the New Zealand Society for Training & Development. Neal has also presented at conferences and meetings in Singapore, Taiwan, Australia, and South Africa. He is also a reviewer for Human Resource Development Quarterly.
